Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American Southern rock band. The band became prominent in the Southern United States in 1973, and rose to worldwide recognition before several members were killed in a plane crash in 1977, including lead vocalist and primary songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, near McComb, Mississippi. The band regrouped in 1987 with Johnny Van Zant, at the helm. If you're young you've probably heard two of their songs, Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama. That's all you need to hear.
